OLDER ADULTS 65 YEARS AND UP
We believe in aging gracefully! Healthy and active lifestyles are so important as we get older! Retiring from work doesn't mean retiring from LIFE!
We work with free weights dumbells, elastic bands, and medicine balls. The purpose is to incrase muscle tone, maintain bone strength, tendons/ ligaments strenght and toughness, improved joint function, and reduce potential for injury.
Strenght training is primarily an anaerobic activity, but we can adapt it to provide the benefits of aerobic exercise, depending on client needs.
We can take you through programs that provide physical conditioning that exercises the heart, lungs and assocciated blood vessels and muscles used to perform that specific exercise.
Any kind of activity that increases the heart rate is a cardiovascular exercise.
In this session you are going to learn how to control your heart rate and breathing. We are going to build your cardiovascular resistance progressively.
We can go for walks, use machines, and do movements on the floor. It"s all based on your ability, comfort level and health needs!
We develop programs that focus on stretching exercises for the purpose of increasing range of motion. Proper range of motion in the joints allows for natural alignment of the body to maintained throughout the day. Good range of motion, along with strenght training, can prevent or decrease pain or injury.
We use static techniques in order to target the major muscle/joint/tendon groups.

SPECIALIZED TRAINING: CHILDREN AND ADULTS WITH SPECIAL MENTAL NEEDS
We believe that all people, no matter what their mental capability, deserve and require a healthy and active lifestyle!
The special needs ( mental/developmental challenges ) we work with include Autism, Asperger, Down Syndrome, Hyperactivity, Attention Deficit, and Border Line.
We all know exercise has many physical and mental benefits. Exercise gives us energy, make our heart stronger, increases our metabolism, improve our mood, concentration, attention, coordination, decreases anxiety, is good for relaxation, fights depression, help us lose weight, keep fit, etc.
These benefits are of particular importance for people with special needs.
Our programs consist a special workout routinewhere we use sequences and patterns that participants have to follow. We gradually incorporate simple to more complex movements, focusing on trying to use all muscle groups from the biggest to smallest. Those movements are going to help participants with their gross and fine motor skill, concentration, focus, attention, coordination, self -regulation and obedience.
We incorporate some fun tools as well, such as balls, hula hoops, plastic bars , and elastics.
Even simple exercises, like fast walking, jogging and even running and jumping are recommended activities since they help increase the production of serotonin. This brain chemical regulates mood, apetite and the sleep/wake cycle. Moderate to high intensity exercise also releases endorphins:
Biochemical substances that are known as pain relievers and tranquilizers. Regular physical activity helps reduce anxiety and stress which can be very common symptoms for this group.
The workout routines are performed primarily outside ( weather permitting). We firmly believe that being in contact with nature, breathing fresh air is great for mental health and well being!
Sessions are between 30-45 minutes long up to 2 participants.

Behavior Modification Through Exercise
This program was created by Dr. Julio Salazar for people with special needs and autism. His program has been recognized and is running very successfuly in more than 50 countries. The goal of this program is to help people with autism or developmental challenges to modify their behavior, improve their capabilities of attention, concentration, learning, imitation, socialization, and relaxation through exercise techiniques that are adopted progressively.
This program is ideally delivered outdoors in contact with the nature. It can be delivered indoors in an open space. We use tools as balls, elastic bands, hula hoops......etc.
This program has many benefits in a variety of aspects of human development as:
Emotional: It creates an effective relationship between the participant and the instructor from the very first stage. It provides confidence, making socialization a bit easier each time. We use games, imitation exercises to develop aerobic and anaerobic capacities, stimulation of oral communication and development of the autoestim.
Cognitive: Routines, sequences, patterns, and exercise repetition benefits the development of the brain and memory. Participants will learn to recognize and follow routines that required a good amount of effort and concentration. That stimulates learning skills.
Physical conditioning: Regular exercise not only helps to achieve muscular strength and cardiovascular endurance, but also improves personal conduct, discipline, order and preserverance.
Chemical: Serotonin is a neurotransmitter found in many regions of the nervous system and is related to mood control. Physical exercise regulates the production of serotonin, which is particularly beneficial for those experiencing hyperactivity (which is also characteristic of people with autism). Exercise also produces endorphins, neurotransmitters that help fight and reduce stress and pain.
Self Control: Through breathing techniques and deep oxygenation, participants learn to control their anxiety and emotional imbalances.
Basic Learning: This type of exercise and approach increases the predisposition of physical learning. Participants will start to memorize numbers, patterns and be more attentive in following instructions.
Eye Contact: The instructor stimulates the attention of the participant using tools as oral orders, gestures, palmates, objects, colors, sounds, always directing the vision to the participant capturing their attention and promoting a future of more effective communication.
Prior to designing a program, an evaluation is required. The purpose of the evaluation is to understand the participant’s physical, motor, aerobic, and anaerobic abilities. It also allows us to determine if there are any muscular challenges such as hypotonia, instability and antlantoaxial.
The evaluation also covers nutritional habits and preferences. This is an important part of the program as we believe there are some foods that can cause allergies or sensitivities in certain people that could affect mood and behaviour. Most people with autism have problems assimilating gluten and casein. When those nutrients are not processed adequately by the digestive system there could be harmful consequences in physical and emotional conduct.
The participation of the parents or care givers in the program is very recommended. It will help participant to have a better approach with the instructor, and will help the instructor to know better the needs and requirements of the participant.
